Liverpool Express - Trainwreck preamp
Liverpool Express - Trainwreck preamp
Any decent guitar player in this day and age would have heard of the mythical and mysterious Train Wreck amps designed by the late tube amp guru, Ken Fischer. Played by the likes of Warren Haynes, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Mark Knopfler and Billy Gibbons, Trainwreck amps command a certain legendary status in the history of boutique tube amps.
Liverpool Express is my take on capturing the sparkling, touch sensitive rich tones of the Express and the Liverpool amps into one pedal format. The design features JFET's which are excellent for emulating vaccum tubes at a much lower voltage. Controls are as you would find on the original amps and are very interactive. In addition, there are two toggle switches to provide a range of tones.
V - Volume, G- Gain, P - Presence, B - Bass, M - Mid, T - Treb
Br - Bright Cap toggle, Mb - Mid boost toggle
The "Br" switch essentially adds or remove the Bright cap. Just like an actual amp, the difference can be heard on the lower to medium settings of Gain. With the cap in, the tone is your unmistakable harmonically rich touch sensitive Trainwreck tone. With the cap out, it gives you a fuller range of lower gain crunch great for rythms.
The "Mb" switch introduces a Mid boost which is great for leads as well as chunky rythms.
Since this is a preamp unit, it can either be used on a pedal board in signal chain as a drive, or you can run it directly into the effects loop of your favourite amp. Another way to use it is to run it directly into your DAW followed by speaker IR's for recording. Even though it has enough gain on top, you can drive it even harder by using an OD in front, as you would with an actual tube amp. This pedal runs on standard 9V center negative DC supplies. It can also be run anywhere from 9-18V for more headroom.
